Stuff I do
When I'm not working or spending time with my family, I am probably absorbed in one of these things. Here's a little window into some special interests.
Lutes
Need to nerd out about 17th-century musicology? I’m your person. I’ve been obsessed with this era (and its weirdly specific tunings) for years. Plus, I’ve played the lute, badly but passionately, for over 13 years. I was lucky enough to study with the late Pat O'Brien. I love Bach. Actually, if you haven’t listened to Paul O'Dette yet, fix that immediately.

Trees
Tree's are nature’s dancers, their limbs bending and reaching up through the light. Most of my tree photos were taken in Central Park, where the American elm creates sweeping cathedrals along the Mall. I have an Instagram account dedicated to my musings.
Birds
Need someone who can lose an afternoon watching a warbler twitch its tail? Hi, it’s me. I’ve been an avid birdwatcher for about a decade. Everything from hawks in the city to chickadees that look like tiny fluff balls of rage. Now I have this "blog" as they once called it. Check it out.
Photography
While I don’t call myself a photographer, I’ve spent years immersed in the world of photography, writing over 100 articles on the subject for The New York Times and authoring a book on groundbreaking women photographers. I love exploring the stories behind the images, the craft, and the people who make it all happen. You can see all that here.
